Would I go Back?
We’ve all entertained the thought before right? “Aw man if only I could go back and change that thing I did or said…things would be so much better now!”
Yeah, it’s kinda fun to think about some things especially if it’s a “gotcha” one liner that would have been perfect for that one moment!
I often get asked, “If you could, would you go back to the day that you lost your arm and choose not to go in the ocean?” Life with both arms would be nice, right?! Yeah, that could be… but I always answer with a confident, “No, I wouldn’t change a thing.” Why? I see the beauty and the good that has come out of my situation. I know that God had a plan for my life. The adversity and overcoming had – and still has – a purpose!
Now that I’m a mom of four beautiful children, I more seriously consider the risks I take in and out of the ocean. I take more seriously the risks my children take as well! (Definitely a mom instinct, I think 😉). On top of everything else that’s going on in life, I want to have as much peace of mind with my children as I can.
Even though I wouldn’t change my past, I will do what I can to prevent something like that from happening again, especially to my children.
Here’s what we’re doing. my family and I have started using Sharkbanz!
Honestly, I was a little hesitant when I first heard of the tech, but as I came to understand how it works and how effective it is at deterring sharks, I knew that we would be using Sharkbanz whenever we go in the ocean. It gives me peace of mind knowing that when I’m surfing, or when my children are in the water, they are significantly reducing the risk of an incident! Phew! One less thing this momma has to worry about when my boys are in the water!
So, I’m encouraging you to find tools that help bring you peace. For me, time in the Word of God and prayer have been so helpful lately. Looking back at your past and thinking on things that woulda coulda, can bring discontentment. What are you doing right now to enrich your life and others around you? Know that you are where you’re at right now for a reason.
Whether it’s a season of joy or a tough one that’s hard to see past, know that He is refining and bringing all things together for His good. Live in the calling that God has placed in your life!
Cheering you on,
Bethany
