Building Confidence

It’s a constant battle to overcome our self-doubts and insecurities.

If you’re feeling that, you’re not alone – there are a lot of us struggling.

Jenny Schatzel joined our ‘Ohana Live Event to give us practical tips to build our confidence. Jenny is a well-known health and wellness expert who is changing the conversation on body image, confidence and the power of movement. Her mission is to help women grow in body confidence and lead them to true health. A business owner, speaker, and author, Jenny is breaking the common toxic cycles that women often fall into that hold them back.

I especially appreciated Jenny’s perspective on body image. Using her extensive experience in the fitness industry, she explained that if we all ate the same and worked out exactly the same, we would still look so different. God has created us each individually and our uniqueness is actually one of our greatest strengths.

Jenny reminded us that we need to tell ourselves what it true so that we can eventually embrace it. You may not feel beautiful or unique at first, but you will eventually believe it as you speak the truth of God’s Word to yourself.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

Psalm 139:14

“Everyone has bad days,” Jenny explained, “but we don’t have to unpack and live there”. When we are feeling discouraged and down – with our body image or any other topic – we need connection with our community and connection with God. Sometimes others can help you see what God sees in you.

My favorite tip from Jenny was that “mood follows movement”.

Doing just 10 minutes of movement can dramatically change the next 2 hours of your day for the better. You don’t have to do a super intense workout. You can take a walk around the block, dance around your living room, or do some jumping jacks. When we move, our emotions are changed for the better. We are more regulated and our brains think more clearly.

Here’s a clip where Jenny talks about this in detail:

So much of our confidence is from God. We have to stand firm against the lies that the world is constantly telling us.

However, with the help of God, our friends and family, and practical tips like the ones that Jenny gave us, we can live a more confident life. Change doesn’t happen overnight so do not be discouraged if it takes time. Keep at it!

I’m cheering you on today to carry yourselves with confidence!
