3 Ways to Fight for the Good

I look at the world around me through the perspective of light and darkness, goodness and sin.

When you start to examine the world and see that there is beauty and light to enjoy and celebrate, you realize that there is also an alternative side. Ultimately all the bad things that we don’t like, that we disapprove of and that hurt us are coming from a darkness, sin or wrongdoing.

We really have to fight for goodness and beauty to shine around us in the world and in our daily lives. Here are 3 ways to do that!

Be Gracious to Others

While my version of darkness might be very different someone else’s down the road, I have my own struggles and tough areas.

I’m not perfect and nor are they so I think it’s really important to have grace for people. I don’t know where they’re coming from, how they were raised or if they had a mom and dad present in their lives. If they didn’t have someone to speak into their lives saying, “you can get through this struggle” or “you can overcome your challenges,” they might not have known that they could do that. I try to keep this all in mind and not to get as frustrated with people and the world around me – we are all struggling in our own ways.

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.”

Colossians 4:5-6

Check the Bible

God’s Word has so much to say on what is right and what is wrong. His Word guides us, protects us, and ultimately reveals our need for a Savior.

God has given us the promise of His Word and Holy Spirit to guide us in this life. This truth and faith helps me to respond to certain issues, love those around me, and know what to stay away from. In the craziness of culture, I’m glad that I can look to the Bible for guidance. If something is outlined in the Bible clearly as sin, I must stand against it.

“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.”

Ephesians 5:11-12

Examine Yourself

We all have a battle of light and darkness within our souls.

It’s so important to dig deep and process our thoughts, feelings and actions because sometimes the darkness can take over without us even realizing it. Have you ever done or said something that in the moment seemed so right and then after the fact, you’re horrified at what you just did? Why do we lie, hurt others or treat those we love with bitterness?

We must self-evaluate and identify when we do things that don’t line up with God’s Word. Then we need to ask for His forgiveness and ask Him to wage war the against the darkness in us. The good news is that God has already won the battle against the evil in the world and He will do the same in your heart!

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

Colossians 1:13-14

I encourage you today to fight for the good and beauty in your life, even if it’s just in your own home. Even the small moments are important when you can stand against the darkness and share His light.
